People talk about primary and secondary separation in theory, but what we do is the best indicator as to what we actually believe. I am not a “secondary separation” kind of guy, but I am strongly separatist at a primary level. I have found out, however, that I am often more of a separatist in practice than some who profess “secondary separation.” So this question is mostly about assessing where SI participants are where the rubber meets the road.

No one doubts that these are changing times, yet change occurs in all directions and varies by region and church. So how is Sunday School (or Adult Bible Fellowships) or equivalent ministries faring in your church?

What Percentage of Morning Service People Attend Sunday School (or equivalent) in Your Church?

For our church carry in dinners, we make laminated signs. For the coffee pots, one says, “Regular” another “Decaff.” We have “hot and spicy” “Sugar Free” and our newest, “Gluten Free.” It seems obvious to me that there is an ever-growing number of people who have gone gluten free because of severe digestive issues.

Not too long ago, doctors would label a number of conditions as psychosematic, “in your head.” Many of those conditions now have medical names and are no longer considered imagined.

With Harris, Mahaney, Driscoll, and Tchividjian’s disenchantmentm, one might conclude that the Gospel Coalition is more about bad news than good news.

What are your thoughts? Is this simply a ripple or are the foundations beginning to crumble?
