“Swinton, chair in divinity and religious studies at King’s College, University of Aberdeen, doesn’t merely critique therapeutic culture. He gives pastors something better—the biblical category of shalom. He offers a vision of mental health that exposes the poverty of our culture’s therapeutic assumptions and gives the church genuinely different categories for human flourishing.” - TGC

Anybody read the book? I will concede that "shalom" appears in all kinds of crazy places in the Old Testament--names, other words, etc..--and hence to neglect that as a likely mental health category probably misses the boat. I also remember a book I've got called "Psychotherapy from the New Testament", that I need to understand better. Not quite sure where we can take this, though.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
