Study Finds Churchgoers Are Becoming Less Certain the Bible Is Clear About Sexuality, Gender, Abortion
“American churchgoers are becoming less sure about what the Bible says regarding abortion, human sexuality, and gender, according to a study conducted by Family Research Council’s Center for Biblical Worldview.” - C.Leaders
My take on this is that too many churches and even denominations have failed to develop the kind of robust exegetical, hermeneutic, and other techniques in their congregations that would allow them to come to truly Biblical conclusions in these matters. All too often, the approach is to "prooftext", which is problematic in these regards because when you're talking about abortion, "transitioning", and the necessity for monogamy, you're talking about looking not at single verses, but at patterns through the Scriptures. For that matter, even with regards to homosexuality, there are many (e.g. Matthew Vines) who force us to take a look at the depth and breadth of the evidence.
And if we'll do it, I think it's worth the effort. There are a lot of issues out there that would benefit from this kind of analysis.
