The Invisible–That Is, Non-Existent–Sculpture

“We now have the work of art that defines our age…. The Italian artist Salvatore Garau has created a sculpture entitled Io Sono, which means ‘I am.’ It is invisible; that is to say, there is nothing there. He has sold it for $18,000. Garau claims that it does, in a sense, exist, as a sort of vacuum.” - Veith

With a title like that, you’d think it would be a tribute to Descares, but apparently it’s not.

Anyway, I am the new owner of the sculpture (I dare you to prove otherwise). It’s size is ideal! It fits perfectly inside the paperclip section of my desk drawer, though I’ve found that I enjoy it most when I move it around randomly. At the moment it’s hovering above my keyboard.

Still, I’d be willing to sell it for a good enough offer. Email me!

Very important question, really. I’d heard this was just a practical joke that went viral, though. Whatever. Someone wiser than I noted “a fool and his money….”, no?

The art thing that strikes me as interesting these days is that Hunter Biden’s evidently selling his artwork now for up to half a million a pop. OK, “a fool and his money are soon parted” and all that, but with this and with his two million dollar advance for a book that’s not selling, it raises the question of precisely who is paying him this, and for what purpose. I don’t think it’s legitimate to think he’s just learned at age 50 or so that he’s both a great author and artist, so it seems that somebody is paying him well to be quiet about some things.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

It does talk to my house plants! And it’ll talk to yours too, for only $6,000. Limited time offer. There’s only one, so better send me that check quick before it’s gone.

About Hunter, he’s been making a lot of money for a pretty long time. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s been told and “encouraged ” to take his life in a different direction. Or it’s a rich guy having a midlife crisis.

Once paid $300,000 (I think) for a painting that was simply three solid stripes, like the French flag. Same artist sold another one to the gallery that was one solid colour.

I am currently doing some renos around my house and am wearing my “painting shirt” which has numerous blotches all over. I was kidding with my granddaughter yesterday that it was a “work of art.” (she’s 6… I think)

That got me to thinking - I wonder what I could get from the national art gallery if I framed it and gave it a name…
