Our Real Enemy in the Culture Wars Is Nihilism

“It’s this lack of belief in the good, true, and beautiful that leads us down the paths of perpetual power struggle, to thirsting for nothing beyond the will to power, and to a dark abyss. We must not lose sight of that as we search for answers to what ails us.” - Dispatch Faith

What I’ve been surprised to see over the last almost-decade is how many otherwise Bible-minded Christians have embraced a kind of nihilism. Or a kind of dualism. The duality is “biblical ethics for all of life” … “except politics, where it’s all about whatever works [or seems to].” Where is nihilism in that? It says that power is important for its own sake rather than as a means to a higher end. How does it “say” that? By ignoring how the higher end demands that we examine methods not just outcomes. It’s the “higher” part of “higher end.” The “higher” includes paths taken, not just destinations arrived at.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

Huh. It's posts like this that make me think we should have another political discussion. Because (if you're looking where I think you are as you say this), this completely misunderstands what I think.
