Another example of why Christians need sound, biblical teaching on LGBTQ issues

Pastor Patrick Boyle of Orlando’s Revival Baptist Church is hosting the conference timed to Gay Pride Week …Boyle claims he wants to make American straight “again,” but only by condemning LGBTQ community. “The Bible says ‘That which is crooked cannot be made straight.’”

Apparently never read 1 Cor. 6:10-11.

… or even 1 Tim. 1:15

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

‘cuz we’re a bunch of good ole boys …

Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.

It’s possible for a reasonable person who isn’t a hater to misinterpret Roman 1:18-32 (mostly by looking at 24-28 without the rest…and ignoring lots of other passages) to mean that all homosexuals are beyond redemption due to reprobation.

One could believe that and be saddened rather than gleeful or hateful.

That’s quite a different thing from advocating that they should all be executed.

As for BJ III, I don’t recall ever hearing or reading him hold to either of these views.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

Steven Anderson, famous for his rantings about “pisseth against a wall”, is involved. I am shocked, shocked! (here are your winnings, sir)

To the point of “why always us?”, it strikes me that the pentamatics get it, too, but due to various factors, sometimes we Baptists get blamed for it. I have a hunch that it has something to do with fine folks like Mr. Anderson. Good example; Pat Robertson sometimes gets pinned as a Baptist.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

But the problem with that, Joeb, is that we are a very loose coalition of hundreds of churches, all of which are “independent”. So outside of publicly naming and shaming churches, there isn’t much that can be done. Our autonomy is out biggest weakness and our biggest strength. Furthermore, there is nothing to stop Anderson (for example) from just going out and starting another “baptist” church elsewhere.

It’s similar to the rationale behind why the SBC can’t build a database of convicted predators in their churches. They have no real way to enforce compliance with anything they require short of withholding funds from the Cooperative Program or expulsion from the SBC itself. Given what we saw last year of the ten suspect churches and how seven of them were almost immediate cleared, it’s fair to question if the SBC has the willpower to do that kind of correction even if the cases were open and shut.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

It was a very long time ago… but yep, it’s public record:
