Do All Things Really Work for Good? (Romans 8:28)

TylerR Mon, 10/17/16 8:30 pm

Body

Bill Mounce: The ESV represents the standard translation of this verse. “For those who love God all things work together for good” (see also the NET, KJV, HCSB). The reason these are poor translations is because they make it appear that “all things” mystically make everything that happens good.

Is There Ever a Time to Use “Man”? (Col 3:9–10)

TylerR Mon, 10/10/16 8:30 pm

Body

Bill Mounce: I have no trouble avoiding “man” when the meaning is clearly inclusive of women and men,” but I do struggle when a translation loses so much of the meaning of the passage.

Jesus Never Said ANYTHING About Felony Home Invasion

TylerR Fri, 09/09/16 8:30 pm

Body

Babylon Bee (satire): Want to know what I’m incredibly tired of? Christians speaking out against felony home invasion. I’ll never understand why self-described “followers of Christ” feel so comfortable rallying around a topic that Jesus never even mentioned.

TylerR Thu, 09/08/16 8:30 pm

Body

Master’s Seminary: On October 6, 2014, Robert Gundry delivered an address at Westmont College in which he made the shocking claim that the apostle Peter was actually “Peter the apostate and false disciple according to St. Matthew.”

Are Ants People?

TylerR Tue, 09/06/16 8:30 pm

Body

Bill Mounce: While all translations are interpretive, dynamic are more interpretive than formal equivalent translations, and that increased danger can miss the point being made by the text, especially poetry.

Was Jesus In A Lonely, Deserted, or Uninhabited Region? (Mark 1:45)

TylerR Mon, 08/29/16 8:30 pm

Body

Bill Mounce: The KJV’s use of “desert places” is unfortunate. I suspect that for most of us “desert” evokes images of the Mohave or Sahara desert. As desolate as rural Palestine was in the first century, it certainly was not filled with sand dunes. The NKJV’s adjustment to “country” is better, but as I say above it is not best.
