“According to an analysis of the CDC’s 2025 Youth Risk Behavior Survey data … 17% of ninth-grade girls identified as lesbian or bisexual in 2025, down from 30% in 2021. Over the same period, the share identifying specifically as bisexual fell from 26% to 13%.” - CPost

NewWorth noting

Twenge noted, however, that the declines began during the Biden administration. She also questioned why, if politics were the main cause, political changes would affect ninth-graders more than older high school students.

The article is at least thoughtful enough to avoid jumping to conclusions.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

NewRough study....

Fri, 10/16/26

....for those who would argue that this is innate. Innate traits don't show big shifts like this, so it indicates--as did the famous "twins" study 30 years back--that nurture and culture have a lot to do with this.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

NewI am deep into this stuff …

Fri, 10/16/26

I am deep into this stuff (for various reasons):

First, this wasn't a study, it was a survey. There is not enough data, nor is their and established study criteria to draw too many conclusions from this, except what is on the surface. There is a drop.

Second, it isn't clear if this is a true shift. It was a single question, without enough structure to truly determine what is meant by the results

Third, it doesn't eliminate whether this is innate or not. There is no scientific study that accurately concludes if there is a scientific basis for sexual or gender orientation. With that said, even the drop could indicate that there is still a core that is innate and that others are just naturally questioning things. The results didn't go to zero and the results weren't broad based. While there was a drop overall, much was within limits of the survey, only the 9th grade girls showed a massive drop. There is probably an element of contagion and there are antecdotal signs that there is some contagion going on, and this affects young pre-teen and teen girls the most, especially amongst other areas that have shown social contagion. But the survey itself is way to limited to determine any of that.
