If you read through some of the earlier court documents regarding this, this is a family court case from Hell. The parents had their marriage annulled more or less because the court found the father had been untruthful about just about everything in his past of significance, and was known to be cruel to his stepchildren. Now the court could be wrong, of course, but what it does mean is that the family court today has a horrendous set of choices to make. The evidence before them should make any person’s stomach cringe.

There are some crueler things that could be done to a child than tell him he’s a girl and try to chemically turn him into one… but not many.
Why is there so much confusion about this? Children are often confused about what it means to be whatever their sex is. We used to know that called for a bit reaching. “Look, son, your a boy, and that’s a good thing. It’s how God made you, and it means you’re going to be different from girls in a lot of ways. Girls are great, but part of what makes them so great is that you’re not one! …”
In this particular case, there really ought to be a third legal path that has nothing to do with custody. I’m not sure how it would work, because someone needs standing to sue the mom. But especially when there isn’t an “obviously better parent to give total custody to,” it’s the state’s job to intervene to protect the child. Can’t a judge say “The dad isn’t fit to be a dad, but nobody gets to sex change a child”?
We need legislation, folks.

I would dare say we need a consensus that it’s child abuse to castrate or otherwise sexually maim a child, personally. You’re not getting a law through until we have that.
