Kentucky legislature passes the country's strictest abortion bill
“The procedure dilation and evacuation accounts for about 16 percent of Kentucky’s abortions. HB 454 deems it illegal to perform the procedure after the eleventh week of the gestation period.” Jurist
The logic of Roe v. Wade makes clear distinctions between viable and unviable babies. The Kentucky law would be a great idea if it could pass the courts, but 11 weeks is about when a lot of women figure out they’re pregnant, and is a full 9 weeks prior to the earliest actual survival of a baby that I can remember. Until Roe is overturned by the Supreme Court, I simply do not get why legislatures try this kind of thing. It is an exercise in political self-pleasuring, really.
