Southern Baptists voted overwhelmingly to condemn ‘alt-right white supremacy’
“The decision was met with a standing ovation as about 5,000 members of the denomination voted at their annual convention to affirm their opposition to the alt-right movement, which seeks a whites-only state. But it was not a decision easily reached.” WaPost
Good move… even better if they’d done it last year though.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
It strikes me that while the general definition of “alt-right” does imply racism, maybe it’s better simply to state the end point—advocacy for white supremacy and a “whites only” state—than to use the more generic label. Other than that, good move for the SBC, and frankly I’m impressed that even 6% of congregants are black given history. That shows you what real repentance will do for reconciliation.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
