Mohler: 'I will accept nomination' as SBC president

"I am honored by the announcement by Pastor H. B. Charles, and I will accept nomination as president of the Southern Baptist Convention in June... All my life, I have sought to serve whenever asked by my denomination, and I would hope, if elected, to serve in a way that would unite Southern Baptists, strengthen our work together, add energy to our evangelism, and keep our hearts set on taking the [G]ospel to the nations." - BPNews

I suspect Mohler feels strongly enough about many current trends in the SBC that he's willing to serve as President, if elected. Is complementarianism (what a mouthful; a horrible term!) that big of a deal for him? Who knows. Mohler always does things very carefully, very thoughtfully and very strategically. He would never have uttered the "go home" comment. Just see how upset he was when Phil Johnson tried to get him to go on the record about hot-button issues at the recent Shepherd's Conference.

Lest not forget it was Rachel DeHollander that brought Al Mohler to his knees regarding backing CJ Mahaney.  Al Mohler defended CJ at a conference CJ was attending and jested about the allegations against Mahaney on the Internet.  So is Mohler really better than Beth Moore.

I also just saw a new repeat of the Andy Savage situation except the Victims caught the matter before it got to the final vote to call Alleged Sex Perp Pastor Wes Feltner as Senior Pastor to First Baptist Church in Clarksville Tenn.  There is a video on You Tube where a Church Leader in the church equates what Wes did to youthful sinful folly and a lapse of judgement that Wes repented from. So I'd say he did it and their going to hire Wes anyway.    Yeah Youth Pastor Wes Feltner having sex with two young teens in his youth group just youthful folly.  Probably the usual coverup when it happened.

This hiring process is going on right now not 20 years ago.  The church invited the gals to submit statements which they eventually did.  Apparently this has been repeated at other churches.  Some churches hired Wes others fired him.

The incident of sex abuse occurred 17 years ago  and the Bad Actor's twisted statement in front of the church  was yesterday or the day before .  In my mind the  video reflects what some of these Twisted SBC Pastors and Leaders clearly truly think about the sex abuse of underage girls.  The gals have also received threats to silence them from sharing the info with anyone other than the committee.   Of course business as usual.

Maybe a real Godly Person  like Beth Moore or Rachel DeHollander is what the SBC needs instead of twisted corrupt Male Pastors and Leaders who believe the sexual abuse of children is youthful folly.

I do not believe our Lord would want to go with such evil just to hold up a Biblical Standing that Women in church should not speak, teach men, or have authority over them when a lot of the SBC male leadership have repeatedly proven to be lacking in common sense.

Please tell me where I'm in error for thinking this way.

The previous matter I cited regarding Wes Feltner involved to gals just out of youth group and were 18 years old.  Wes was their former Youth Pastor and was counseling them regarding break ups with other boyfriends. It was during this counseling or just after it Wes manipulated them into relationships at the same time in which he wanted to pursue a secret dating relationship with them to determine If he  should marry them.  The mother's of the gals were contacted to seek permission.  The secret dating was so Wes could break his engagement with another gal at the church.  Wes continued all three relationships and became physical with the two 18 year olds until found out.  I don't know if this would be considered criminal considering he was counseling them.  Depends on the state laws. However I still don't consider it just youthful folly.  What Wes did was directly connected to his job.

Who is Wes Feltner and what does any of that have to do with Al Mohler???

D Meyers threw a slight toward Beth Moore or at least that's how I'm taking it.  What I'm showing is to this day it's business as usual with the Men who are SBC Pastors.  This is what Beth Moore is fighting all the while Male Pastors in the SBC are trying to play the theological card on her when she is 100% right and they are wrong Mark.

Mohler is guilty of the same attitude of SBC Psstors that defend and/or protect these Bad Actor Male Pastors at the SBC.  Mohler promoted CJ Mahaney at a conference and then made light of what CJ Mahaney was accused of  which Rachel DeHollander called Mohler out on. DeHollander  forced Mohler to admit he was wrong.

Since Mohler demonstrated the same old sinful attitude so why not Beth Moore as President of the SBC.  At least Beth Moore would have the common sense to call out a MONSTER protector and refuse to share a stage with him.  I see the better person being Beth Moore despite any Biblical arguments to the contrary.  Mark until the SBC Male  Leaders and Pastors can demonstrate they deserve a high leadership position the women should take the helm.   Business  as usual is still going on toward young gals and women in the SBC Mark.  To call what abuser does as youthful folly is way out of line.

What does a person being male have to do with anything?  Both men & women are equal in their capacity for error, sin, and abuse of power.

True M Martain for all have sinned.   However for the most part women are not allowed to be Pastors in the SBC and have authority over men.  That's the ax being grinded against Moore by McArthur and other male Pastors.  Hence the population we're talking about is MALE.  So MMartin your point is irrelevant to my position.

I'd be interested in getting an answer to Jim's question ie What does an SBC National President do.

From all the criticism of the SBC that is posted on here, I would think you all were experts. Anybody?

Joeb's picture

The SBC Church Search Committee  considering Wes Feltner for a Senior Pastor position has called Feltner's female victims Adversaries.  Feltner himself has just called what he did youthful indiscretion and said that he was single at the time.

So nothing has changed in the SBC and with their Male Leadership and Pastors.  Any real Christian organization would immediately suspend Feltner's credentials in a very public way.  Hence until the SBC Male Leadership can get their acts together maybe a woman like Beth Moore is the Leadership the SBC needs at the National Level.   At least she would not tolerate Wes Feltner's behavior and the behavior of the church considering him for a post.

Again the above has everything to do with the thread.  It clearly shows its business as usual at the SBC and maybe Mohler is not the person to be the National President unless he is willing to take overt and immediate action where ever he can.   Otherwise Beth Moore again is 100 % right..

I was addressing the board of experts here at SI who constantly criticize the SBC, and who know all the intimate details of SBC life. Note I hit reply to your question, which causes a "Jim wrote" post title. I did not address you directly, I merely quoted you.
