Should a student have been expelled from a state school for breaking the rules of the institution they had been attending (say for vandalism or drug use), the same thing would be taking place, but without the media hype. It’s really that simple.

The only thing that seems slightly questionable is the issue about the money and the transcripts.
Of course, that might not even be a big issue without the fact that it is being played up by the report here.

Also, her being accepted back in from the suspension after meeting the requirements and then being told promptly that they were expelling her anyway seems rather odd, but could be explained if there was some event that came to the school’s attention to prove that she was “insincere” during that time that hasn’t been expressed in the article.
If nothing else, the fact that she has married another woman would show that anything she said to assure them that she was not going to continue in a pattern of sin was insincere.
