World Events and WWIII

Lately I’ve found myself looking at developments on the world stage, as they say, and thinking, are these events going to be in the history books of the future as turning points that lead to WWIII?

  • Increasing nuclear capability in N. Korea
  • Increasing Russian aggression, end of nuclear arms treaties
  • China… enough said.
  • Iran’s continued progress toward nuclear capability.

Do you think the world is moving toward a third world war?

There are so many variables, all it takes is one crazy person in power. How crazy is Putin? Or Kim Jong-un in North Korea? There are calculated plans to expand nations (as in China’s case), but insanity and the lust for power are connected. So when you have these absolute rulers, like Putin (who began very calculating) — and things don’t go their way — their EGOS take over and they will cut off their nose to spite their face. Like Hitler and Stalin, they eventually gravitate into the realm of the unreasonable and the insane. These egotists now have nuclear weapons.

Renegade nations like Iran could start things. China is bent on taking Taiwan, and they are out to dominate the world. It is like a dam is leaking and we are running out of fingers to plug the holes.

Meanwhile, younger Americans are less disciplined, more into having a good time and disconnected from the mistakes of history, and thus do not have the advantages of long-term perspective or idealism of former generations. In a family oriented society, people are more willing to make sacrifices, but in an individualistic society where it is all about ourselves (we have moved in that direction), we lose our collective resolve. How well would we rise to the occasion?

While WWIII is always the push of a button away and has been since the development of nuclear weapons, lesser conflicts are perhaps more likely. For example, a limited war with Iran on one side and Israel on the other. Or a war like that in the Ukraine but only with Taiwan and China. Any of those can get out of hand. It seems more wars are inevitable, the big question is whether they will mushroom into World War III. That is most likely to come from a power-monger egotist who becomes mad with the lust to make a name.
