Fundamentalism & Evangelicalism

WE have had many discussions on SI about what it means to be a fundamentalist. Your definition might not fit mine, and vice versa. We generally recognize Gospel-believing churches as evangelical, conservative evangelical, fundamental; I would add a fourth category: extremely fundamental.

By my definition, here is a rough breakdown that has many exceptions:

A Hyles-Anderson KJV only type church would be extremely fundamental.

An IFCA or Grace Brethren church and most independent Baptist churches would be fundamental.

Here is the problem. The SBC statement admirably denounces every form of racism in general, but specifically denounces only one kind of racism, the kind that has recently come bubbling to the surface in the alt-right movement. What this does is almost completely ignore where the alt-right movement is deriving its energy.

The pathway from Biblical principles to applications is always a murky one. I can’t find the quote right now, but a while back, David Doran said something like, “I can accept that another believer will apply a principle differently than I do, until he applies it so differently as to prove that he doesn’t believe the principle at all.”

That’s the whole point, IMO, of the “Pregnant and 18” thread. Two principles apply:
