“What does Bill C-4 criminalize? Why have some Canadians objected to (or applauded) the language of the bill? And why are Christians worried about aspects of the bill’s language?” - TGC

So am I understanding correctly when I assume that it would be legal under this law to coerce someone to be a gender different than their birth gender but not legal to coerce them to be their birth gender? Am I also correct to assume that it would be legal to coerce someone to be homosexual but not heterosexual?

First, the article is accurate and well stated

as to your questions: I think your understanding is a natural interpretation, but the language is vague, so we will have to wait for a test case… but one wonders if any court in Canada would be willing to take a case accusing the gays of coercion. Our courts are very liberal and even our “Conservative” politicians tend to social liberalism, so I’m not holding my breath

….but here in the U.S., when I see that the language of a law is vague, I always infer that a good portion of the law is to help employment for lawyers and give politicians a soapbox on which to stand. The sad thing here is that in all this grandstanding and billable hours, the legitimate needs of young people who are homosexual or trans, but do not want to be, are going to be forcibly ignored. It also stands to reason that this is going to nudge people who are “on the fence” to one side or the other, and given the irreversible consequences of some of these things, that’s also unconscionable.
