Why are Facebook and Apple compensating employees for egg freezing?

Because top technology professionals are not necessarily those who appreciate the realities of biology, and that it’s not just the ovaries that get older? Or possibly because a subset of employees are selfish enough to think that they’ll have the energy to be good parents when they’re 70, single, and needing a new knee/hip or bypass surgery?

Maybe closer to the 2nd idea… the policy would attract young professional women who want to be able to delay childbirth until … when? I have hard time even making theoretical sense of it. But it does seem to be some kind of career first family later thing.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

:^) Actually, aren’t both the things effectively the same? Knee replacements and being 70 when your child finishes high school are biological realities of delaying childbearing, after all, as well as being fairly irresponsible in how one has children.

Not that this stops many men who “trade their first wives in on a younger model”, of course.
