On a serious note, I took this development as an indication CFA has decisively shifted from the views of its founder, to a sphere where overt evangelicalism is less a part of the brand. Not sure why; either due to different convictions or belief it will help their business. CFA in London just closed after opening, you recall, due to protests from LGBTQ activists. So, this sounds like a calculated decision, and may be related to London mess. Bad decision, I believe.

I slept with a CFA manager last night and we talked about this. CFA’s job is to sell chicken sandwiches and please God in how they conduct their business. Sometimes that means going out of your way to not offend people. They are not a church or a ministry, they’re Christians who made a business decision. (I did hear from one person who was glad that CFA was no longer sending money to new evangelicals like the SA and FCA.) They will continue to do more works of kindness. BTW, the London store was what they call a “pop-up”. It was intended to be a temporary experiment to see if the market was viable. It wasn’t.

I still haven’t seen any solid reporting that CFA has said this was bowing under LQBTQ pressure. It is concerning of course that biblical mores are being marginalized but CFA is not a church. There is no biblical fidelity expectation for a sandwich place. If my pastor begins to refuse to preach biblical ethics under pressure that’s a different story.

I remember well the situation with an old, small (10-15 stores) grocery chain in our area. It was owned by a prominent Southern Baptist family. Not surprisingly they did not sell beverage alcohol products. They also did not open on Sunday long after other grocers began to do that. Lots of folks shopped with them because they appreciated their public stance on both issues. Then competition heated up. Business began to fall off some. First, the Sunday closing policy ended. Some time later they began selling alcohol. It wasn’t too long before they went out of business.

That chain may have gone out of business anyway before long. I do believe, however, that their demise was hastened by the changes they made which seemed inconsistent with the stands they had always taken. Will CFA go out of business? I doubt it. As I said in an earlier post, I will still eat there. However, it does make me sad to see them (apparently) cave to pressure from the perverse left.
