They're Gay, They're Christian And They're Celibate!
It seems in the world I’m in that being gay means engaging in a homosexual lifestyle. To be attracted to the same sex and to be celibate (not act on that attraction) would not qualify one as gay.

Still laughing at Jim’s (we will refrain from calling it Freudian) slip of the keyboard. :)

I came out publicly as gay on S/I … Beanie is harassing me about this via PM [could help with job security where I work … :) )
Maybe I need some testosterone treatment!

Shoudna let Kathee shave your beard and head!
I had a friend in Colorado who married a German woman, and armed with an imperfect knowledge of the language, complained that “he was warm” to his in-laws on a hot summer night. Idiomatically translated, it meant about the same thing as what Jim said. All I can say is that both of you are fabulous brothers in Christ.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
Boy can I relate to your friend’s mistakes in German. I also married a German and have said many embarrassing things. In German, you need to say “mir ist heiss” (It is hot to me) to express something about the weather rather than “Ich bin heiss” (literally “I’m hot”, but idiomatically it means “hot” in the sex-appeal department). I’ve said that among many other things that have had her side of the family laughing quite hard at me. Thankfully, over 25 years of experience have improved my German and reduced the number of those mistakes on my part! :)

I just confessed to Jim that I’m a lesbian. I’m attracted to women. BTW, my son is a thespian!

Chip and Ron,
The main reason these terms are not helpful is that the historical and popular use of the terms homosexual/heterosexual, gay/straight are used to designate people and not actions. That may not be how you are using the terms but that is how they have been historically used and are currently being used today.
Why would a chaste Christian who still has same-sex temptations, want to identify themselves as ‘gay’? A much better identifier is ‘redeemed’.
