“Reading and studying the Bible is not concerned with what we feel the text may mean”
“Neither Bible study nor the Christian life are centered on our feelings; they are centered on being mastered by the Word of God, that we may be anchored in God’s truth whether in good times or bad.” - Ref21
I don’t think the question “What does this verse mean to you?” always has to deal with a “feeling centered mindset” that the article describes as “dangerous.”Sometimes, I think it just means “Which of the possible interpretations of this verse are you most comfortable with given your understanding of other Scriptures. Take Genesis 6:1-2 for example. “When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.” So who are the sons of God in these verses? I’ve heard two different perspectives, and I lean more toward one than the other, but I’m always interested in finding out what those two verses mean to other people. (I don’t want the thread to drift off to actually answering that question. I just brought it up to show that the question of what a verse means to people is not always dangerous, in my opinion.)
