“...we still have a lot to learn from the early and medieval church”

"Some church history and tradition have been forgotten or neglected by many modern Christians…in part, for lack of knowledge of their importance." Gavin Ortlund, pastor of First Baptist Church of Ojai, California, talks about recovering lost doctrine and practice and his new book Theological Retrieval for Evangelicals. - Ref21

I’m not familiar with G. Ortlund, but this sounds like a good book for our times. From the Amazon blurb…

Many evangelicals today are aching for theological rootedness often found in other Christian traditions. Modern evangelicalism is not known for drawing from church history to inform views on the Christian life, which can lead to a “me and my Bible” approach to theology. But this book aims to show how Protestantism offers the theological depth so many desire without the need for abandoning a distinctly evangelical identity.
