Christian Zionism as Heresy?

“Younger Evangelicals are less inclined to systematic Dispensationalism, and seminaries that once stressed it no longer do. Personally, I rarely if ever meet Dispensationalists under age 50.” - Mark Tooley

We should not conflate the criticism of Israel (a secular state that bears little resemblance of Biblical Israel) with antisemitism. We should be able to criticize Israel's handling of the Gaza situation, without wrongly attributing it to Antisemitism.

Nor should we conflate dispensationalism with a view of the modern state of Israel or the affairs of the modern state of Israel.

And that is the key error of authors like this. They appear not to know that dispensationalism does not require a view of the modern state of Israel. Not to mention, this guy doesn’t even get John Hagee’s name right.

In fact, all Christians should support the right of Israel to exist in peace and safety and in freedom from terror. It is a matter of the image of God in man.

The history of the middle east and particularly of Palestine is far greater than can be communicated in an article like that. However, it isn’t too much to ask that a person who is going to write such an article be more informed about it.

The trouble I have with trying to separate anti-Zionism from anti-Semitism is that the supposedly "anti-Zionist" movements in our country seem to have an uncanny tendency to veer into actions that are simply anti-Semitic, and if one stands up for Hamas, they're really standing for some of the nastiest anti-Semitism out there.

I'm OK with taking a look at how Israel is prosecuting the Gaza war, but if one is wearing the keffiyeh and such, telling Israel they should totally back down from guys that put their crimes against humanity on the Internet, well, ya lost me there.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
