The Demand for Death in Canada Grows
“According to a recent article in The Atlantic, assisted suicide is now so popular in Canada that doctors cannot keep up with the demand.” - Breakpoint
First, cynically, the over stripping demand is probably more a function of not having enough doctors to keep you well, let alone kill you off.
But, sadly, a big part of the medical profession is pro killing you off if you don’t offer a valuable enough contribution to society. I’ve heard of doctors pressuring older people to opt for death. There are also stories where medical people keep family members out of it lest they talk their victims out of it.
In short, it is not a good scene at all

To me, it tracks that if your worldview says humans are only chemistry and physics and chance, it’s “optimal” for them and for society to identify the point where they cost more than they are worth and facilitate their exit.
The problems with that are not mainly practical problems, from a Christian perspective. It has to do with sanctity of life. But there are practical problems. How do you define where that point is where bundles of chemistry and physics are no longer worth their cost? And who decides?
So in Canada, the model is the individual decides. But, from the perspective someone who is not a medical professional, I wonder are they really competent to make that choice? Of course, they could identify criteria ahead of time, when they are arguably “of sound mind,” but what if when you get there you discover you don’t feel that way about it at all? But you are judged incompetent to reverse your earlier decision?
Well, I don’t know how the system in Canada actually works. But it seems fraught, even given the worldview.
But the logic of taking out the trash is simple enough if you have decided to bet that there is no Creator.
