Ark Encounter gets tax incentive up to $18.25M

It is amazing that we can’t pay pastoral staff properly, it takes years sometimes for missionaries to raise support, but we as Christians raise $100 million to fund a theme park for our homeschooled kids, with the hopes that a life size ark will bring people to Christ. What a disappointing view of the Gospel. Next up is a tower of Babel theme park. The concept of luring them with lots of money in order to throw the Bible at them, will really look bad 10-20 years ago. Isn’t this what we complained the evangelical churches were doing with all of their programs, classes, coffee shops, music….
Look at it. It’s basically an apartment building that does not prove that a large ship of gopher wood could have withstood the oceans for the period of time Scripture suggests. Concrete piling foundation, steel fittings to hold the frame members, etc.. If you want to prove that a 400 foot long wooden ship would work, a better fit would have been the “treasure ships” of Zhang He from the 15th Century, which is said to have been 390’ long or more—and would not have required concrete pilings or steel fittings.

Christians in the US gave $115 billion to religious institutions in 2014. $11 billion of that went to Southern Baptist Churches. I am pretty sure that the vast majority of Christian Museum donors don’t peg that as their main contribution each year. The real problem is the lack of members, or members who don’t give hardly at all. They are ones who probably don’t give to the Creation Museum either.
