Jason Collins: 'I'm black. And I'm gay'

Also, what happens if my favorite team signs him? Am I allowed to criticize the signing based on purely b-ball reasons without being labeled a homophobe? I doubt it.

Interesting point. Many were critical of the Eagles signing Michael Vick because of his mistreatment of dogs. Somehow, I don’t think this will be looked at by society in quite the same way…

Shame on ESPN.

Slow down, now. I am all for criticism where it is due, but in this case, I think ESPN intentionally gave Broussard the right to present a Biblical view. Again, watch the whole segment in context:

They obviously present an openly homosexual writer (LZ Granderson) with someone they know will articulate a Christian perspective on the matter.

Furthermore, in their apology, they are careful not to say something like, “We vehemently are opposed to the bigotry, hatred and homophobia of Chris Broussard.” Instead, they refer to the “respectful discussion of personal viewpoints” that “became a distraction from today’s news.”

In today’s climate, I would actually consider that response a somewhat pleasant surprise from ESPN.

I had not seen the entire segment with Chris and LZ. I didn’t realize that they were actually having an open discussion, allowing both to give their viewpoints.

Thanks for the link.
