One in four Americans think Obama may be the antichrist, survey says

Who is the antichrist? Who knows? It wasn’t Hitler, Stalin, etc., and they were pretty bad. I heard an interesting theory that there will always be “antichrist-like” characters because there is no way for the devil to know when the rapture would happen so he has to have a candidate ready at all times.

Actually Jim, I have met some that infer it. And when you press them, they will say, “he may not be THE one, but he is A one.” When you press them further, the really wish he is. I have always found it silly to try to predict who the anti-christ is.

Roger Carlson, Pastor Berean Baptist Church

If you want to discuss the Antichrist, read Daniel 2, 7, 9 and 11-12 - or just the entire book! It certainly isn’t President Obama. The Antichrist will arise from the political ashes of the old Roman Empire (that means the U.S. isn’t a possibility), at a time when there are 10 prominent, contemporaneous political leaders in power in countries that are heirs of the old Roman Empire’s territory. The Antichrist will subdue three of these rulers, by either military or political force, and make a peace covenant with Israel. This will be the start of the seven year Tribulation period. In the latter half of this period, he will attempt to eradicate religion and specifically put an end to the sacrificial system among the Jews - this indicates a earthly theocracy or partial re-instatement of the Levitical system may be in Israel’s future. Intense persecution of Jews and desecration of the temple will follow, as the Antichrist deals with a rebellion among his political coalition. His reign will end in failure as Christ return and the Millennial Reign begins.

Some theologians see an actual future revival of the Roman Empire, from whence the Antichrist will come (e.g. Leon Wood). I disagree, and see the revival of the “fourth beast” as the political legacy of the old Roman Empire (see Pentecost).

All of which means these are events yet to come. This is very obviously a conservative dispensational, premillennial viewpoint. An conservative amillennialist would probably say the Antichrist spoken of in Daniel was Antiochus Epiphanes. A liberal would claim Daniel was written after the fact and merely recorded history, not predicted it.

The point is that the idea that President Obama is the Antichrist is Biblically untenable, whether you’re a dispensational or Reformed conservative or even a theological liberal.

The anti-Christ is Henry Kissinger. Sheesh.

… only 7% of Americans in the survey believed the moon landing was faked, 14% believed in Bigfoot and 4% accepted that “shape-shifting alien reptilian people control our world by taking on human form”. In other good news, Paul McCartney will be relieved that a mere 5% of respondents believed that he died in a car crash in 1966 and was replaced by a double so the Beatles could continue their careers, and just 11% embraced the concept that the US government knowingly allowed the terror attacks of 11 September 2001 to take place.

Well, isn’t that a relief.

We were at Wright Patt AFB the other day, and I was very tempted to sneak away from the group and try to find the secret basement where they are hiding the aliens who crashed in Roswell in 1947.

What does the ultimate source say about this?
