Russian Christians, Jews, Muslims Form Ten Commandments Party

American politics was really weird sometimes.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

Oh yeah, you should read about political hesychasts in the Orthodox, particularly Greek, world. They want to eschew the European Union to call Orthodox Christians into a revived Byzantine Empire, basing their culture on the Cappadocian Fathers and St. Gregory Palamas.

Cor meum tibi offero Domine prompte et sincere. ~ John Calvin

the “Christians” are Russian Orthodox not Evangelical Christian-Baptists.

Hoping to shed more light than heat..

The religious right in America is evangelical and fundamentalist Protestants, Roman Catholics, politically conservative (mostly Orthodox but some Conservative) Jews and Mormons. So just replace the Roman Catholics with the Russian Orthodox, replace the Mormons with the Muslims and you get the same.

Also, if the Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney runs for the White House, as well as major Cabinet and federal judiciary appointments are any indication, Protestants are at the bottom of the totem pole - and decidedly so - in the religious right in America. Protestants provide the votes, especially in the south, but get very few leadership positions in either presidential administrations or at the RNC, and virtually no top federal judiciary appointments and aren’t even among the major voices on talk radio, Fox News, the major conservative newspapers/magazines/blogs etc. Each time an evangelical Protestant made a serious bid to get a major judicial appointment or run for president (i.e. Harriet Miers and Huckabee) the result has been a meltdown in conservative circles. So the religious right in America is basically by and for Roman Catholics and Jews first and second, with the Mormons coming in a close third (and their profile is raising thanks to a formal arrangement between the Vatican’s U.S. representatives and the Mormon church leaders created in 2009). The trick has been for Catholics, Jews and lately Mormons to use the religious right to sell what is basically their own agenda and to get evangelicals to buy into it being in their interests also. That is why getting taxpayer support for (mostly Catholic) schools, hospitals and other social service agencies has been such a big deal, as well as making support for Israel a higher foreign policy objective than protecting our missionaries (both Israeli and American Jews really dislike our missionary efforts) and getting our state department to acknowledge the growing global persecution of Christians by Marxist, Muslim and secularist regimes (instead of the attention that they pay to much smaller scale and number incidents of anti-Semitism and anti-Islam). Not only is there practically nothing in the religious right agenda that is specifically or particularly helpful to Baptists and other Protestants, but a lot of the ideas in the religious right agenda like taxpayer support of Catholic institutions and marching with AIPAC would have been vehemently opposed by Baptists and other Protestants just a generation or two ago.

So again, replace Mormon with Muslim and what is going on in Russia is basically what our own religious right always has been.

Solo Christo, Soli Deo Gloria, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, Sola Scriptura http://healtheland.wordpress.com

In the States, it has the support of conservative Protestants and step-children of the Reformers. In, Russia it will be without the support of the Evangelicals.
