Remember "A Thief in the Night"? 40 years old today
These movies mostly pre-date my days in fundamentalism/Bible prophecy, so for me they have always been a look back at how people thought about these things prior to my involvement in the movement.
As a pastor, I did try to show A Thief in the Night on a small-screen TV once on New Year’s Eve almost 20 years ago. My how times have changed since then :tired: !
For me, the films would probably be mostly of sentimental value at this point. The mannerisms of the Bible-believing pastor in the first movie are strikingly similar to one of my former pastors H:)

I remember as a child when our church showed this movie (on a reel to reel projector, no less) for a New Year’s Eve Watchnight Service.
I could never figure out why Jesus’ return was thought to be more likely on New Year’s Eve, but that’s worth a whole other thread.

Now that you mention it, I think I saw Thief twice, once at a watch night service.
… later also wondered what NYE had to do with the Rapture. On the other hand, it’s as good a night as any… and any night is a good night to be caught up. 3/12/12 would be very much OK by me!

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
At some point I figured out it was a Christian alternative to keep people from going to New Years Eve parties.

Why not just be straightforward about that? We just go ahead and have a new year’s eve fellowship/party of some kind, usually at someone’s home. And if anyone asks, yes, it’s at least partly intended to be something better to do on NYE.

Much better approach.
