Why Certain Types of Music Make Our Brains Sing, and Others Don’t
“our prediction of musical events remains inexorably bound to our musical upbringing. To explore this phenomenon, a group of researchers met with the Sámi people, who inhabit the region stretching between the northernmost reaches of Sweden and the Kola Peninsula in Russia.” - Neroscience News

[RajeshG]Ah, I see where you are getting my logic wrong. I didn’t say there HAS TO BE negative commands. My logic was simply that a positive command would still leave open the possibility that other actions are also acceptable. The location data proves this. A positive command to sing in one’s bed still leavers open the possibility that God would allow singing in other places. Do you think we can ONLY sing in the places that have positive commands to sing, such as the Lord’s house? Is singing in the shower not okay since there isn’t a positive command to sing there? YOU are making it sound like YOUR logic is that we can only sing in places that have positive commands and only have volumes that have positive commands. THAT is what is faulty logic.Your “logic” is that a “positive” command is not enough; there must also be “negative” commands that specify all the things that cannot be done—otherwise, everything is legitimate.
[RajeshG]Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you are saying we should just believe anything that is said by any occultist since we “cannot understand and cannot examine” the things that are demonic. Should we really just believe everything they say, if your point is true that we are unable to determine validity?I think that the position that you have taken in these points is unbiblical and very dangerous. Demons are supernatural spirit beings who act in supernatural ways in realms that humans cannot understand and cannot examine.
How then are you going to determine validly which activities involve actual contact with and activity by demons and which ones do not?
For example, God has not told us anything about the enchantments that Pharaoh’s magicians used to do those miracles. What exactly did they do when they used them? How did they know what to do? Who taught them to do what they did? None of these questions are answerable by any ordinary humans regardless of how well they know the Bible or not.

Lev. 19:26 Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
Lev. 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Lev. 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Lev. 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Deut. 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Deut. 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Deut. 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
Deut. 18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
2 Ki. 23:24 Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Acts 19:19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
2 Cor. 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Eph. 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Rev. 2:24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
God’s wisdom is that we are to rid our lives completely of everything that has to do with the occult, just as Josiah purged Judah and Jerusalem of all the occultists and their occult abominations and the new believers in Ephesus destroyed all their magic books that they had previously used in their occult practices.
God commands us not to have any fellowship with their unfruitful works of darkness. We are to reject the occult and occultists categorically.
[RajeshG]Yes, God does not want us to have any fellowship with occultists. [Kevin Miller]Not having any fellowship with occultists and their occult abominations is precisely why we must completely reject the occult abominations of all rock music and all rock-based or rock-influenced music and purge our churches and our lives completely of them.Yes, God does not want us to have any fellowship with occultists. [RajeshG]Really? What makes you think all rock music is occultic? There are so many other uses of rock music than just what may have been used during some occult practices. Not having any fellowship with occultists and their occult abominations is precisely why we must completely reject the occult abominations of all rock music and all rock-based or rock-influenced music and purge our churches and our lives completely of them.
[Kevin Miller]You beg the question that all kinds of music are acceptable to God and have never provided any biblical justification for your views. This is just more of the same.Really? What makes you think all rock music is occultic? There are so many other uses of rock music than just what may have been used during some occult practices.
[RajeshG]Can you show any where on any thread where I have said that all kinds of music are acceptable? I’ve never made that claim. You beg the question that all kinds of music are acceptable to God and have never provided any biblical justification for your views. This is just more of the same.

I would argue that it was at least implied in how you argued against the teaching of 1 Cor. 10:23 that not all things edify. If you did not believe that all kinds of music edify and are therefore acceptable to God, you had plenty of opportunity to make that view clear.
[RajeshG]The edification factor is only one possible reason why God might not accept some music, and in my mind, it’s not that likely that “lack of edification” would be the reason God rejects whatever it is that He rejects. His rejection would be based on something a lot stronger than that.I would argue that it was at least implied in how you argued against the teaching of 1 Cor. 10:23 that not all things edify. [Kevin Miller]Your notion that others things are “a lot stronger” than edification is your exalting your own reasoning above divine revelation. God profoundly emphasizes the necessity that something must be edifying if it is to be used acceptably in corporate worship. Even the fully authentic divinely given gift of speaking in tongues could not be used in corporate worship if there was not an interpreter so that all would be edified. The edification factor is only one possible reason why God might not accept some music, and in my mind, it’s not that likely that “lack of edification” would be the reason God rejects whatever it is that He rejects. Whether or not something edifies is biblically an all-important consideration. God says that even for all the things that are lawful not all things edify. You in effect claim that what God says is not true for all kinds of instrumental music and hold that all kinds of instrumental music edify. You have to prove that is true—begging that vitally important question is not legitimate.
[Kevin Miller]No, that’s not what having fellowship with occultists means. Scripture teaches us that there fully authentic professional occultists who therefore have transmitted and do transmit that information to others who want to be fully authentic professional occultists themselves.Yes, God does not want us to have any fellowship with occultists. Making proper use of that information that is directly from them about their wicked occult practices is not having fellowship with them, and it is not seeking “out their demonic ‘wisdom’ when God warns us to have nothing to do with them.”
[RajeshG]So are you claiming that whether music edifies is MORE important than ANY other reason why God might reject a kind of music? Is it more important than any possible occult connection that you believe exists? I didn’t see my explanation that some objections are stronger to be exalting my own wisdom. I was just explaining something that I understand to be true FROM divine revelation. God gives a number of different reasons in the Bible for why He rejects a number of different things, and “lack of edification” is certainly one possible one, which I acknowledged, but I don’t understand that reason to be the all important one in the Bible.Your notion that others things are “a lot stronger” than edification is your exalting your own reasoning above divine revelation. [RajeshG]Ah, so now we have to determine “proper” use of information from demonically influenced occultists who serve the father of lies. I’ve been saying much the same all along. I’ve been saying we have to use discernment in believing what they say. That’s the ONLY way that we CAN make proper use of it. Do you claim that we always have to believe everything an occultist transmits? No, that’s not what having fellowship with occultists means. [Kevin Miller]You have misunderstood what I mean by “proper.” By proper, I mean that the information is used as judiciously and discreetly as possible with as little exposure to the material as possible. It means not experiencing, sampling, or directly viewing or listening to anything for the supposed purpose of using “discernment in believing what they say.”Ah, so now we have to determine “proper” use of information from demonically influenced occultists who serve the father of lies. It is impossible to use discernment in detecting whether a potion, spell, enchantment, seance, trance, etc. involves the true activity of demons. Are you going to say that it is fake unless you see, hear, smell, taste, or feel demons being present and active? How are you going to know whether demons are present when you try out what the enchantment says must be done? Are you going to use some kind of supposed “demon-meters” from some supposedly authentic source like Snopes.com to detect whether something authentically supernatural is actually taking place or not? What exactly are you going to do to evaluate supernatural activities of evil supernatural beings when the Bible does not give you any information about those particular occult activities and you as a human do not have any abilities to perceive what is going on in the spirit realm?
