The problem with options 2-4, 6 is that I’m not sure how you distinquish between a prophecy and a random thought that pops into ones’ head. I’m not really sure there’s much point in seeking a gift when you can’t ever be certain you’re actually using that gift.

The question is - what’s ‘the perfect’

We may not be sure what “the perfect” is referring to, but we can be sure what it is not. It is not the completed Cannon, because there will be prophesy in the Millennium (and Tribulation).

The perfect (or complete) I think has to be a reference to the eternal state.

Along with tongues, my take on prophecy is that you’ve got real & fake prophets in both the OT and NT, and in both times, the prophet is claiming to speak the very words of God. I see a lot of false prophets today, not clear evidence of true ones, and one thing that is sobering is to consider that the main thing that needs to be revealed is when He’s coming back.

There might be some room for some prophecy on how things are going to be fleshed out in the meantime, but that noted, I don’t see a lot of people stepping forward to risk the consequences of false prophecy these days!

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

In some movements, there are plenty of supposed prophecies, often presented as “Thus saith the Lord.” Many have not come to pass. A recent example is the “famous” prophet who prophesied Donald Trump would win the 2020 election. Then apologized. Then took back his apology.
