Pastors in $5,000 Sneakers

“I recognize that the stated motive for the megachurch ministers will be evangelism, trying to make the unchurched think that by wearing cool clothing, they are creating the impression that Christianity is cool. But…” - Cranach

Discussion

I’m not one who is averse to high end products, and there are a number of things where I don’t buy the lower end, but there’s a certain point where I really don’t see the point of going to the ultra high end. If a person walks up to me wearing thousand dollar sneakers and a $760 t shirt from Givenchy, I’ll either not pick up on how much they spent for their clothing, or if by some chance I do recognize what they’re wearing, I’ll conclude “they’ve got more dollars than sense.”

Which is not a good look for anyone, but especially not for a pastor. There is a difference between key components of quality and snob appeal, and it’s not that subtle.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
