“Republicans, and most visibly Mike Pence, face a choice between fidelity to the Constitution and fidelity to Trump.”
“Unless he recuses himself and hands the job over the Senate president pro tempore – as Vice President Hubert Humphrey did in January 1969 – Pence will have the ceremonial but politically consequential role of presiding over a contested certification.” - The Conversation

As I watch the implosion of President Trump and the Senate campaigns of Perdue and Loeffler, what comes to my mind is that there is a degree of toxicity among GOP advocates that used to be seen mostly among the far left, e.g. the AOC/Squad wing. It is as if we need to remember Reagan’s 11th Commandment never to speak evil of a fellow Republican.
It also strikes me that any number of people who used to have a lot to say, politically speaking, gone off the rails. We need to re-learn the difference between being a genius and being a crank.
