Discussion

Perhaps it is becasue of the call to the pastorate, but I have always found 2 Timothy (and I Timothy) to be very practical and personally challenging, as well as putting an emphasis on the Gospel.

I love Galatians. I love the emphasis on grace apart from works. I also think the biographical information about Paul is amazing and instructive. I will never forget reading Machen’s section on it in “The Origin of Paul’s Religion.” It opened the book up for me to understand it so well.

Of those books I have only preached through Titus, so it’s my current favorite. That may change when I get to some of the others. :-)

It’s just fascinating in the things it answers, and even more fascinating in the questions it seems to leave open. I can chew on that—and the puns Paul uses in it—all day.
