Televangelist Ernest Angley reportedly cannot pay to fix grounded ministry jet

“…the jet will likely not be back in operation because it needs a part necessary for landing that would cost Grace Cathedral six-figures, which the ministry does not have. Pilots also refer to the Pinal Airpark as a ‘boneyard’ because many of the aircraft that are stored there are eventually used for parts and scrapped.” - Christian Post

What church doesn’t need a 747? I know that my church couldn’t get by without our 747…………..oh, never mind.

I can get, sort of, a small private jet that can fly directly into smaller airports and eliminate waiting and layovers, but a 747? Cost of that thing pays for a LOT of airfare, or for that matter, rental of somebody else’s private jet.

BJU owns a nice (small) turbo-prop aircraft. It is based at the Greenville Downtown Airport, just minutes from the campus. Seats 11. I assume that they find it to be cost effective for their travel needs, and that they make good use of it:

But a 747?

It probably cost the ministry $10M to $15M when they bought it. Not sure what they were thinking?

It’s the same reason some guys buy monster homes, other guys buy Italian supercars, and yet others buy giant Montana ranches and remove mountains to improve the view. Prestige, “rubbing it in” that you’re richer (and hence more spiritual), etc.. The official reason is that it moves (moved, since it’s not in working order) humanitarian aid and missionaries from place to place, but even if that were the case, I’d guess it would be a lot cheaper to rent the right sized plane if that were necessary. Or—writing from experience doing some international shipping—planning ahead and sending aid supplies in shipping containers for a fifth the price.

Never heard of this guy. Just Googled for him.

No matter how hard I try, those are pictures I just can’t unsee. Wow! I’ve already regretted looking him up.

He was kind of a big deal among Charismatic “televangelists” in the 80s and 90s… and probably further back.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
