PCA endorses Nashville Statement on biblical sexuality
“Overture 4, titled’ ‘Declare the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood’s “Nashville Statement” on Biblical Sexuality as a Biblically Faithful Declaration,’ was accepted on Thursday by a vote of 803 to 541.” - Christian Post

What is significant is not that the PCA approved the Statement but that so many in the PCA voted not to approve the Statement.

I’m thankful this resolution was passed by the PCA. Thanks, PCA, for taking a clear Biblical stand. I’m concerned that 541 delegates voted against it. That seems like a worrisome large minority to me.

I believe the debate in the PCA was not over homosexual behavior (which all agreed was wrong), but over the issue of desire. Some in the PCA (541) did not believe the desire was inherently sinful, but only the behavior. The majority got this right, thankfully. Don’t assume, however, that the minority was pro-homosexual. My knowledge of this is based on discussions with very seasoned and conservative PCA pastors who explained what the nature of the debate really centered on.

Thanks Mike for the clarification. Perhaps the minority is more pro-homosexual than they realize. If homosexual desire is not inherently sinful, then no immoral desire is inherently sinful. Therefore, if a man has internal desire for a sexual relationship with a woman whom he is not married to, then we cannot tell him that desire is wrong and sinful. That’s one reason I don’t view the PCA vote as all that great.
