Our Answer to “Imagine”
“So how should a Christian respond to these ‘imaginings?’ What would you say if someone played that at a funeral, right before you were supposed to speak?” - P&D

I guess a servant of the Gospel has to lead with the Gospel, but if the decedent wants that song, I've got to assume either he didn't understand the song, or he didn't understand the Gospel. There's no way to sugar-coat it without violating Exodus 20:16. Just go forward and emphasize the reality of Heaven and Hell.
Another thought is that this might explain Carter's failure to grasp the evil of Communism, at least to a degree. He could mouth the Christianese, but the insight that I'd hope comes from the Gospel simply was not there.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
