Why do ‘conservatives’ now think it’s a good idea to have the federal government require things of manufacturers rather than letting the market decide?
If people want AM radio that much, they’ll buy cars with AM radios… and car makers will keep including them.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
The article points out:
“[It] serves a critical function during emergencies. It reliably gets important information to the public, which is why several former FEMA administrators and representatives of the emergency response community have called for AM radio to remain in vehicles,” he said.
We live in an area where tornado warnings are common. Further in the wintertime wind can cause life threatening white out conditions that close the interstates regularly. People die if they miss warnings and are caught out in these conditions. I did not realize how that many people do not even grasp what we are living with until we were talking about when to schedule a missions' conference, and someone mentioned that winter road conditions could be a problem. People from outside our area were surprised that our interstates had been closed down multiple times last year because of winter storm warnings. Often AM radio is the only signal that will come in and is vital to knowing if things are safe or not. Weird weather can mess up radio signals.
It makes me sad that a person who complains about Christians being too political often seems to try to divide SI readers over politics. Thankfully the article showed that Democrats and Republicans were united on this issue.
