Go Ahead. Pray for Putin’s Demise.
I used to be appalled by the imprecatory Psalms, but after processing the reality that Putin was simultaneously evil and in possession of a huge nuclear arsenal, I get it. I’ve been praying for God to take him out, and I’m not terribly concerned about whether it’s via polonium poisoning (which would be poetic justice for him), or whether I’d be happy if he was jailed for unpaid speeding tickets. As long as he loses the reins of power, we’re good.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
There can always be someone worse, but at this point, it seems like a pretty good gamble.
As for the prayer piece, there’s no gamble at all! Awesome to know!
6 Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. 7 He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
8 He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and of beast; 9 who in your midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants;
10 who struck down many nations and killed mighty kings, 11 Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, 12 and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel. (Ps 135:6–12)
