Do you consider Sunday the Sabbath Day?
7th Day Adventists. 7th Day Baptists. Some forms of Replacement Theology. Many groups consider Sunday the “Christian Sabbath.”
Others of us believe the Sabbath is Saturday, but rest on the Sabbath is not a required practice for the church. We might argue that we meet on the Lord’s Day, Sunday, which is distinct from the Sabbath.
Still others would take the Hebrews argument that the reason we do not observe the Sabbath is because the entire church age is an age of entering into that Sabbath rest of God, and thus the command is fulfilled in the church.
Yet others believe that the Sabbath is Sunday but no rest is required on it.
When it comes to the 4th commandment to remember the Sabbath, is that in effect for the church as a commandment? Or has it been reduced to a principle only?

But we by and large eschew shopping / dining out on Sunday
Yeah, me too. The best nutshell version of my view would probably be: There is no such thing as the sabbath anymore, but the principles of rest and setting the day of worship apart should not be casually dismissed. For me and my family, the day is not as set apart as it was in my family growing up. And Sunday is always a day of hard work for pastors. So creativity is involved I think, in each case.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
