We don’t get many trick-or-treaters. I think because in Minnesota by the time Halloween rolls around the weather can be dicey. On a cold, windy rainy Halloween … we may see zero kids

[See 1991 Halloween blizzard]

On a nice-weather Halloween we might get 30-50 kids. Kathee only serves up candy until about 8:00 pm when she turns off the porch light. I can’t think of a time when we have seen occult costumes … doesn’t seem to be a problem around here. Anyone coming with this mask will not be served.

IMO, Halloween is stupid and pointless. Some years we have candy for trick or treaters, and sometimes not. Most kids around here go to alternatives, like church sponsored festivals like Trunk or Treat.

My husband is a huge believer in free candy, however, and will take the kids to a harvest party looking to score some Tootsie Rolls.

my mom only let us trick or treat until we were 12 yo. We had a nice neighborhood for trick or treat …

my mom lived it up in a big way—we had a turret in that house, and we’d hang a body from the chandelier, have a strobe light going, play loud sound effects of screaming/chains/organ/horrid laughter. She’d wear a witch mask and had an awesome witch laugh when she swung open the door …

this is yet one reason i consider my mom awesome. she makes the stuff of family legends.

she didn’t try to spiritualize many holidays. she just enjoyed them as a cultural holiday and made them great family rememberances/traditions.

Reformation Day!!

A real reason to celebrate. Also has interesting connections to the real history behind Halloween.
