… when God has already spoken. (It’s not like He hasn’t thought this through and we should ask Him to reconsider.)

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

They’ve given themselves 75 weeks to figure out how to prevent the mass exodus of tithing members once they announce what they’ve already decided.

Per what John notes, I can state for a fact that a lot of older members are not exactly keen on watching their kids and grandkids do things in a way not corresponding to God’s Word, to put it mildly. They bent during the sixties with women’s ordination and such, but there is a point beyond which most will not go.

It’s also worth noting that a lot of rural Methodist churches—I’d guess most of them, really—are pretty much evangelical in doctrine but weak on women in ministry and the like. The bloodletting could be severe. The struggle between mild evangelicals and theological liberals goes back as far as I can remember, back into the early 1980s—and really decades earlier. I remember seeing Garrett Seminary near Chicago as an enemy of the faith back then, and that was even before I’d come to Christ.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
