“Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office has found 500 more Catholic clergy accused of sexually abusing children than the state’s six archdioceses have publicly identified.” - RNS

Now there is the reality that a priest can go from one region to another, but for reference, there are only currently 749 priests around Chicago, including retired priests, which most likely has about half to two thirds of Catholics in the state. If we start seeing this nationwide, I am afraid that the estimates of the portion of pedophiles among priests are going to need to go up sharply from current estimates of around 4%.
That would, in turn, make it very uncomfortable for huge numbers of people who must have known, but who did nothing.

The result will be the same. Leaders will express their sorrow and ask for forgiveness. Tons of money will be given to victims, settlements will be reached out of court, guilty priests will not go to jail but will retire and be taken care of by The Church.

Good.
"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Ron, you’re cynical. And count me even more cynical, because I’m not even quite sure the leaders will make a real apology. But I know that we are both praying that we will both be wrong. Let loose the dogs of war, and let us pray that the enemies of Christ will surrender.
