The church will continue to miss the mark when they focus on science and reason to combat sin. The Gospel is what “Changes Minds”.

I wasn’t aware that the Susan B. Anthony organization was “the church”, or even that they claim to be a religious organization. Have I missed something here? I actually agree that the Gospel is the only thing that will change minds regarding sin, but appealing to the scientific facts, especially targeting those who pride themselves in following the science, may well persuade a few who are willing to weigh and consider.

They aren’t “the church”, but many of the leaders are heads of churches, religious organizations or deeply religiously rooted. They are also heavily supported by the white evangelical community. But I agree, that doesn’t make them the church.

The problem that rubs me the wrong way, is just the growing focus that the church (and/or Christians) seem to have that the countries spiritual problems will be fixed with money, different candidates, new laws….. And it just reminds me of the religious leaders of Israel trying to enforce rules on the populace to make them better Jews. If the church spent as much energy sharing and living the gospel, we would have a significantly better outcome. If we spent less time posting how bad Biden was and spending that time sharing the gospel, we could start making a difference. We didn’t fix anything if we strike down Roe v Wade. Outlawing Roe v Wade doesn’t send one more person to Christ. Our view of the gospel is so distorted amongst many if not most in the church.

The solution you propose is spot on. Also, you observation that many evangelicals are “barking up the wrong tree” is also correct. Thankfully, there is another smaller strain of evangelicals that strongly agrees with your assessment, and is doing exactly what you recommend. The root problem is weak, doctrinally deficient Christianity. That won’t be fixed by nagging about the myriad of symptoms spawned by deficient churches. It requires a return to robust, Biblical Christianity.
