Trump Triumphs!

Here’s my vision of the future, and I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

The general feeling I am gathering from the evangelical/conservative community is very similar to the feeling of the Reagan revolution of 1980—i.e., we’ve survived bad and dodged a bullet that would have kept us on that track so now the future is rosy. The advance of the Christian culture and opportunities for the Gospel were going to be, for all practical purposes, limitless.

The reality of the 80’s, however, proved otherwise. Instead of a radical Gospel presence our churches and schools raised a generation of money-makers and career lovers. The American leadership in the worldwide spread of the Gospel was marginal at best. And 12 years later this generation that had no clue what sacrifice at any level entailed voted in the most corrupt family, along with their corrupt cronies, that ever (?) occupied the White House, and the concept of absolute truth took a beating.

That is poised to happen again. But instead of electing a statesman like Reagan we’ve elected an amoral narcissist who is the poster child for one described in I Tim. 6—“…supposing that gain is godliness…”, seriously upping the ante (should his policies be successful) for raising a generation of money/influence/celebrity lovers instead of lovers of God who will bear the cross whenever and wherever.

Like I said, I truly hope that I am wrong. But history is to learn from. While I rejoice that, for the sake of our national identity and way of life, the Clinton/progressive cartel took a hard body blow, I think the challenge of communicating truth and the offense of the cross to another generation will be like never before. Now is not the time for churches to exult in political redirection but to prayerfully commit to standing for the cause of Christ, and growing a like-minded generation, in the face of relative ease.
