Bob Jones Had 9 Sex Offenses Reported On Campus In 2011

Some of their non-answers may be the result of privacy laws, codes of ethics, or protection in cases of law suits. For instance, the only reason Chris Peterman’s expulsion and demerits are a matter of public knowledge is because he published it. If BJU said anything, they could be sued in court for violating privacy rights. There are some other areas though in which there is way too much secrecy as though they have something to hide. Then their enemies start making up stuff and the situation quickly goes downhill. This current situation is probably one of a student’s privacy rights.

Somehow I’m thinking the “9 incidents one offender” was something like flashing.. that seems like a LOT of incidents (in any arena) to go unreported / unidentified.

I found the database interesting..

PCC is not on the list (that I could find) .. I wonder what the requirements are for reporting?

With higher levels of leadership and authority (some would say privilege, but I would not) go increased levels of responsibility and accountability. Leaders will be judged according to a higher standard than followers. By right and by definition, leaders really are on a higher spiritual plane that the followers can ever hope to attain—it comes with the job; its the way things are. It is what it is.

When leadership does something that the followers do not agree with, then what are the options? First, I think, is to determine why is there disagreement with the spiritual leader. Is the leader wrong? Is it the job of the follower to correct him? The leader’s authority is God and God will correct him if he is wrong. As a follower, I leave it with God and submit to God’s appointed authority unless that leader is violating a clear teaching of Scripture—which is rarely the case. I don’t have to agree, but I DO have to be submissive, supportive, and loyal.

If I am finding that I cannot trust my leaders, then I have the obligation, according address the issue based on Matt 18, or leave to find a church with leadership that IS trustworthy. But in all cases a follower must be careful to not be guilty of raising a hand of challenge or questioning defiance toward God’s appointed man. Questioning God’s appointed leaders can put one in the position of questioning the God Who put them in their positions of leadership.

There are many things that followers, as that former pastor of mine taught me, should simply keep their mouths shut about because they are not in any position to know the whole story. The decisions must be left in the hands of those responsible to make them.

How does this apply to BJU? They are a private religious institution. They are not required to explain themselves to anyone who simply presumes a right to demand an explanation, least of all to those toxic, apostate, liberal hate groups whose only agenda is to destroy BJU. They may owe transparency to their constituents, but only to the extent that it is absolutely required and does not violate laws of privacy. Example: disgruntled Alumni demanded and explanation for Chris Peterman’s expulsion. If FERPA laws do not prohibit that, then common-sense confidentiality would. However, Mr. Peterman was free to run his mouth as he saw fit. BJU wisely remained mostly silent on the matter.

I was taught to obey my parents (leaders by extension)–PERIOD—no questions. Can my parents (leaders) be wrong? YES. So what if they are wrong; do I still obey? YES. In that case where the parent or leader is wrong, it is God’s job to correct and judge that parent /leader as He sees fit. It is a principle that is Biblical and will serve one well.

Well it appears the lobotomy was a grand success!

Matthew

If I have been spiritually lobotomized, then I owe my thanks to my parents and pastors throughout my life. Take heed to what thou sayest.

It’s a minor kerfuffle!

News Flash: There are sinners at BJU!

  • They reported it! There is no coverup!
  • There are sinners at BJU just like PCC, etc. Sinners do sinful things.
  • As for “media smear”: (really … look at the video!I don’t see it that way. Some local reporter started by mentioning a crime off campus at Wofford College. Also mentioned are Presbyterian College and BJU. Also noted is that most of the crime is student to student.
  • Back at my first opportunity for college-level Christian education: Someone stole some electronics. I was shocked: “how could this happen in this place that seems like heaven on earth!?” Well you know what … it wasn’t. And BJU is not heaven either.
  • So the schools have to report incidents to “The Campus Safety and Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool” (link … cruise right for search function)
  • I suggest we disabuse the thought that “whereas most schools” (Mike H above) don’t report completely while BJU does. Pure unsubstantiated conjecture!
  • BJU provided a satisfactory response (image above).

Is BJU a target?

  • News flash # 2: “[our] adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8)
  • Is BJU uniquely targeted?
    • It is clear to me that there are some BJU haters. Perhaps they perceived that BJU hurt them in some way and are lashing out.
    • Bob Jones III has invited criticism by some of his outrageous statements over the years.
    • The unsaved world scrutinizes every Christian and ministry. This is why the Schaap case is embarrassing. Pastor … even though you aren’t … critics may associate you with Schaap or the newsmaker-preacher-perverts who went before

Here’s how it goes:

“Jim Peet at SI says the rape of women is a minor kerfuffle! Off with his head!”

And the hysterical ranting commences immediately thereafter, calling for various forms of violence to be unleashed on you and your family, while the irony goes completely unnoticed.
