Would LDS Church influence Romney if president?

This is what’s puzzling to me about those who fear his Mormonism. What moral or political stance, outside of polygamy, would the LDS take that would be different than our moral or political stances?

Did President Kennedy take calls from the Pope? Did he betray American interest for the sake of Catholicism?

Of course the Mormon Church has deep influence on Mitt Romney. How could it not? My question is, “Can a religion that has been persecuted resist the temptation to persecute if one of its members earns the ultimate political power?”

I believe the answer lies in observing Mormons in public office, particularly is significant ones and I believe that answer is that does not appear to be the approach of the LDS.

Case study: Is Utah a well-governed state?

All other things being equal … if you were an immigrant and could choose any one state in which to reside, your choices are: California, Illinois, New York, or Utah … which you pick

[don’t choose based on weather … and remember you’ve left where your in-laws live (they live in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mouse_That_Roared(link is external)] the Duchy of Grand Fenwick! ) …

Remember … all other things being equal … which of the above four states has the most efficient, well-run government?

I would pick Utah … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah#Religion(link is external)] 58% Mormon . Now look at t http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_of_Utah(link is external)] he list of Utah Governors …. check out the religion of each … (shouldn’t surprise you!)

This list is 1 year old but I doubt it has changed much: http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/01/14/10-states-with-the-large…(link is external)] 10 States With the Largest Budget Shortfalls . Find Utah on that list?

Now http://www.kiplinger.com/tools/retiree_map/(link is external) consider the tax rates of the 50 states . (Utah is not the lowest tax state … not my point … but contrast with the other three Democratic party dominated states above)

The http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm(link is external) consider the unemployment rate of the states (I presume you want to work!)
