Boy Scouts’ Bankruptcy Leaves Churches Liable for Abuse Suits

If I were sponsoring, I’d be taking a close look at the lawsuits to see when the abuse occurred, and how the BSA’s policies (which used to be highly esteemed in this regard) have, or have not, been working in the past 30 years. Around 1990 is when they theoretically “got religion” in this area.
And then for deciding whether to part ways, you’ve got (a) the risk of something occurring that will expose your church to liability vs. (b) the risk that cutting ties with the BSA will attract attention and somebody will find something that had previously been quiet. I don’t envy sponsor churches for this!
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
