If I were a conservative Catholic, I would be struggling with the dual thoughts (a) the Pope is the duly selected vicar of Christ and (b) the Pope is promoting socialism instead of Catholic doctrine. Yikes, count me ever so glad for Sola Scriptura!

For those interested in economics, the podcast “Econtalk” featured a Roman Catholic convert this week who wrote an article that was (mostly) critical of the Pope’s economic positions. Apparently those types of things are assembled by a group and the Pope selects the one that is most in line with his position. He also made the comment that it is during the Pope’s normal day to day that he has revealed how strongly he does hold to a more socialistic position. Here is the link if anyone is interested:
