4 myths about ex-Mormons

Great to see that of those who left to join another religion, many are now “Protestant” or “Evangelical Protestant.”

I’m glad with Josh to see some coming to Christ, but what’s sad is to see how similar the rest are to those leaving Christian churches. I can’t quite answer, however, whether it’s sadder to have someone still a Mormon, or in the mass of “American popular spirituality”, which appears to be the default setting. Either one has some pretty powerful social pressure from various sources to conform to the party line.

IMO, I think the reason that many young people leave evangelical churches is also for moral reasons, as Bert pointed out. Especially sexual freedom.

Balaam knew that sexual promiscuity could do what he could not do (curse the Hebrew people), and the devil certainly knows this. Although people may offer a variety of reasons that look good intellectually, the moral constraint is often the motivation to accept the seemingly more intellectual justification.
