I do not know Stone. but he is a member of the Steering Committee of the newly formed Conservative Baptist Network, a strange group of SBC leaders (from my perspective) who are trying to seize control of the SBC and eliminate the changes of recent years, things like Prop 9, and claimed “liberalizaion” at the seminaries. The Conservative Baptist Network is purported to have been created under the aegis of former SWBTS president Paige Patterson.

Stone is simply this side’s candidate. There will be a fight.
